Brandon introduces himself

Name: Brandon Borcherding

Study/Education: In Cape Town, South Africa, I have completed my bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management in 2018. In 2019 I moved to Munich, Germany and have completed my master’s degree in International Marketing last year in June 2021.

Work experience: I have previously worked for Apple Inc. in Cape Town during my high school career for 3 years. During my studies, I worked for a classic car showroom in Cape Town, called Club9 where I was responsible for the Marketing and Social Media side of the business for 5 years. Since I have been in Munich, I have worked for a startup called Blue Performance GmbH as their Social Media Manager for 4 months. I also worked for Gorillas GmbH for 4 months as an Operations Associate. Now I am working at HBI from February 2022.

What surprises us most about your CV? The fact that I have worked and have experience in a variety of different environments from Automotive to Media and Marketing, also the fact that I am a native English speaker. I have also worked for a startup, which was one of the desired requirements for working at HBI in my current position.

What do you expect in the first few months at HBI? Well, I personally think I will learn a tremendous amount about how PR and communication programs and systems function and how to execute exceptional quality works. I will also be expected to write a variety of English texts for my team. I would also like to improve my writing skills over time here, as they say, practice makes perfect. One of my main goals while working here is to learn German to a level, where I can start to write and also read interesting articles in German.

How do you imagine your PR work to look like? I think that every day, there will be new challenges and activities that will push me to adapt and learn quickly, so that I am able to create the best possible PR and Marketing posts possible, in order to help my team, achieve their goals and expectations.

Favorite Munich activity? My favorite activity would be to take a bicycle ride to the English Garden on a beautiful hot summer’s days and play soccer with my friends, then afterwards we go watch the surfers riding the waves on the Isar river.

What do you find particularly fascinating about the technology industry? The fact that the technology industry is moving at a rate that is nearly impossible to keep up with. Every day, there are new innovations and ideas, that are coming into the spotlight. The current trends in 2022 so far are mainly focused on Cryptocurrencies and how they can be utilized in the future with advancements in online systems. Overall, this year we will probably see a huge shift in how we all interact with one another, especially with the Metaverse stringing into popularity.

Are you from Munich? Are you a local oda a “Zuagroasta”? 😉 I am unfortunately not from Munich; therefore, I am neither one of these ?

Would you rather be in the city or the countryside? I enjoy a mix of both. I enjoy the vibe of the city at night and on beautiful summer days. On the other hand, I also enjoy taking a detox from the city life and clearing my head with fresh air and no distractions.

What did you want to be when you were a child? I really wanted to be a professional Cricket player for South Africa. When I was in my early teen years, I was very talented and had the chance to pursue this dream, but I decided that it would not be the career path I would want to pursue for the rest of my life in my later years.

What is your favorite Social Media Platform? I use Instagram, the reason why is that I enjoy keeping tabs on my friends and what they are getting up to during their day with Instagram stories. It’s also interesting to watch Reels as you can come across very talented people on the platform.

How do you inform yourself about news – print or online? I use online news websites or LinkedIn to keep up to date with the latest news and events going on in the world. I find it easier as nearly everything is now available on our smartphones at the click of a button, which makes print media not necessary for me.

Keep up with HBI communication trends and HBI news.
